He called his friends and they came soon. But they were afraid the police would come. He told his five-year-old son to go to find out if there were the policemen outside. They waited for a long time and didn’t think the police would come and began to gamble. B31-35 CDADC) Do you know what couch-potato means? Well, in America, the word is now often used. The American couch-potato becomes maybe even a part of the American tradition! You see, in America, many people often spend their free time sitting on a couch (沙发) watching TV. As there are many channels to choose, the TV can be quite interesting and very addictive (上瘾的). One may sit and watch TV for hour and hour without stop! Well, these people who do nothing all day except watching TV are called couch-potatoes. In America, when one watches TV, he is most often sitting on a couch. While watching TV, most of these people look so frozen that they almost look dead! Everyone is sitting still (静止的) with eyes looking right into the same black box. Also because these people are addictive to TV, they don’t take exercise and usually get very fat. So in many ways, these people look like real potatoes! Well, because they look so still and fat, and watch TV on a couch, they are all called couch-potatoes. Now you know what couch-potato means. Barbara hid her valuable things when she went on vacation. When she came back, she couldn’t remember where she’d put them. Perhaps you’ve had such experiences like these. Most people have. But most of them haven’t realized that they have a memory problem. Neither do they know a simple but important fact: Memory can be improved. If you’ll just accept that, the following will show you how. First, relax. If you are over worried something, you’ll forget it. If you keep telling yourself that your memory is bad, your mind will come to believe it and you won’t remember things. When you forget something, don’t follow up with saying like “Oh, my god! I always forget things!” Such words will have a bad result on you and your memory. But relaxing isn’t enough. To improve your memory, you’ll need to take an active role. Like your body, your memory can be made strong through exercise. Look for opportunities to exercise your memory. For example, if you’re learning a language, try to actively remember a lot of new words. If you don’t take notice of things actively, you won’t remember them. So, you can make pictures of what you see in your mind every day. For example, don’t just put your keys down! If you want to find them again, make a mind picture of the place where you’re putting them. 36.The first two paragraphs just tell us . A.Barbara was a very rich person. Packaging(包装)is an important form of advertising. A package can sometimes motivate someone to buy a product. For example, a small child might ask for a breakfast food that comes in a box with a picture of a TV character. The child is more interested in the picture than in breakfast food. Pictures for children to color or cut out, games printed on a package, or small gifts inside a box also motivate many children to buy products-or to ask their parents for them. Some packages suggest that a buyer will get something for nothing. Food products sold in reusable containers are examples of this. Although a similar product in a plain container might cost less, people often prefer to buy the product in a reusable glass or dish, because they believe the container is free. However, the cost of the container is added to the cost of the product. The size of a package also motivates a buyer. Maybe the package has “Economy Size” or “Family Size” printed on it. This suggests that the larger size has the most product for the least money. But that is not always true. To find it out a buyer has to know how the product is sold and the price of the basic unit. The information on the package should provide some answers. But the important thing for any buyer to remember is that a package is often an advertisement. The words and pictures do not tell the whole story. Only the product inside can do that. 41. “A buyer will get something for nothing” in Paragraph 3 most means that ______. A. a buyer will not get what he pays for B. a buy will get more than what he pays for C. a buyer will get something useful free of charge D. a buyer will get more but pay less 42. From the passage we know the buyer pays more attention to ________. A. the size of a container B. a container with attractive pictures C. a well-designed container D. a plain container with low cost 43.What suggestion does the author give in the passage? A. It’s not good to buy the product which is sold in a glass or dish B. The quality of a container has nothing to do with the quality of the product. C. The best choice for a buyer is to buy a product in a plain package D. A buyer should buy what he needs most rather than a well-designed package 44. Which of the following sentences is not true according to the passage? A. In fact, glasses or dishes used for packaging do not cost money at all. B. “Family Size” printed on the package means that he is rather economic. C. To a child, even to an adult, the form is far more important than the content. D. Words and pictures written on the package are thought to be an advertisement. 45. What is the best title for the passage? A. How to Package a Product B. How to Make an Advertisement C. How to Sell Product D. How to Attract More Buyers

I got in touch with Michael whom I have been losing contact for one year. It is really magic. I was searching online aimlessly yesterday when an idea struck me suddenly: since Ben can find out my secret by keying in my name in the search engines, why can’t I do so, either? I intended to find out something about En in revenge in the first place, but soon extend my name list to a wider category. It was then that I recalled Michael suddenly. We have lost contact since our last correspondence in my senior 3. He mentioned to me in his last lettee3r that he was preparing for going to UK to further his education. I, shamefully, was too busy to reply his mail then. When I was recommended to ZJU and won the final freedom, I thought he had already been in UK so I had no idea where to write him. I used to think that we would never meet again. However, when I browsed the entries about him,I found out excitedly that he is still in PRC. Without a moment hesitation, I ran upstairs to my dorm and found out my old address book. Thank goodness, his home number was still there. After 3 times calling with no answer replies, I eventually got him on the phone. He was more surprised than I could imagine that when I asked for his home number he was too nervous to remember it. Life is enjoyable in moments such like this . Old friends meet again surprisingly, on a road of their own ways to their dreams. They look at the face of each other, and

The topic of my speech today is "being a good partner". In this busy, modem world, if we want to complete our work more efficiently, we must all learn to cooperate with others, because not only can cooperation save us a lot of time and energy, but also we can learn much from each other. We'll be lucky enough to find someone we like to cooperate with due to the fact that we can share our joy and sadness with him. However, it can be difficult to cooperate with someone we dislike. In this case, we'll have to learn to put up with some of his shortcomings and try to discover his advantages. In my opinion, to be a good partner, we should try to listen to others' opinions, never force our ideas on others and if he makes mistakes, try to point them out in a polite way. Thank you for your listening! 第二小节读写任务 (25 分) Be Grateful For Our Parents The writer tells us a story that he had an experience of recalling his old friends Michael suddenly, and later they met each other at such moment that made him feel grateful to life and didn’t feel lonely. This story reminds me of an similar experience of forgetting my mother’s birthday. On the evening of April 9th , I was watching TV while my mother was busy preparing for dinner in the kitchen. How attentive I was watching TV program when the telephone rang. It was from a friend of my mother’s, who wanted say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my mother . “Today is my mother’s birthday?” I was a little puzzled. “How come that I have forgotten all about it” I thought to myself, feeling ashamed. At the story, I got deeply shocked and ashamed. It is not easy for parents to bring us up. They give us lots of love and care, while/however we don’t care for them enough. Now it’s never too late to realize this and show our love and care for them. In fact, every one of us wishes our parents to be healthy and happy, so it is with me. So , we really should express our endless thanks to our parents. And my classmates share my opinion. To sum up, we should be grateful for our parents because of their greatest love and unselfish care.
